Grey Herons

Grey herons are a common neighbour when you are cruising the UK canals. Often seen patiently waiting on the waterside for their next fish feast, these graceful, long-legged birds will also feed on small rodents, birds and amphibians.

Living up to 25 years, their impressive wingspan can reach up to nearly 2 metres, and as a non-migratory bird, they can be admired all year round.

When you holiday with Chiltern Canal Boat Holidays, also keep an eye out for the marina's resident heron, Harry. Often seen walking the pontoons and visiting the boats, he's incredibly friendly and loves posing for a close up photo!
